Strong Responses IN FAVOR OF Spanking!

One Reader writes:

"Light spanking is not considered child abuse in this country. That's great that you were able to raise your children without ever giving a spanking, but not everyone's children respond to the same thing. Its also horribly ignorant to suggest that any adult spanking a child has lost control, not to mention that many cultures consider light spanking a norm for child discipline. I am not saying that I spank my kids, which I don't, but as much as you hate republicans you should try not to be like them by spewing out ignorance."

Another writes:

"Spanking is, in fact, not child abuse. Go look it up."

PL's Response:

There are many things that are legally allowed or socially accepted in our culture and others, as preventing women and African-Americans from voting once was here, but that doesn't make them sane and healthy responses. Spanking is hitting and hitting is physical violence and it is nothing more than a demonstration to a child that brute force is a reasonable way to try and control another human being, especially one who is powerless to stop you. Maybe your angry response is a reflection of your own guilt, folks.

Finally, as far as my needing to "Go look it up," I always do. I never speak about these topics in a vacuum. Perhaps you might want to look up this short article on the subject, "To Spank or Not to Spank?" by Elizabeth Pantley, a Parenting Educator and author on the subject.

SPANKING IS BAD FOR KIDS? FOR THIS, WE NEEDED A STUDY?!!?

HERE'S A LINK to a few pieces I've posted about spanking, some a little tongue in cheek, if you'll excuse the pun, and below is a news item about a new study that shows that spanking children is harmful to them. Is there a more emphatic expression than "DUH!" that I could use?!

BREAKING: (CNN) - SPANKING DETRIMENTAL TO CHILDREN, STUDY SAYS

"Think a little spanking won't do much harm to kids? New research says the effects can be long-lasting.
Children are too young to understand when parenting behavior is wrong, a social psychologist says.
A new study of more than 2,500 toddlers found that spanking may have detrimental effects on behavior and mental development.
Lisa Berlin, the study's lead author and research scientist at the Center for Child and Family Policy at Duke University found that children who were spanked as 1-year-olds tended to behave more aggressively at age 2, and did not perform as well as other children on a test measuring thinking skills at age 3. The study is published in the journal Child Development."

By the way, one of the studies that I referenced shows that Republicans by far spank their kids more than Democrats, and that 8 of the 9 biggest spanking states voted for McCain in 2008. I repeat - "DUH!!"

SPANKING REPUBLICANS? HMMM...

Well, certainly, Republicans seem to be getting a good spanking in this election cycle, but a very interesting study I surfed into today, on SLATE.COM, found that Republicans are far more likely to spank their children than Democrats.

Wow! I love that kind of statistic because it can tell us more about people than typical polls.

The biggest "spanking states," not surprisingly are: Idaho, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Montana, Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee, and Indiana, basically what remains of Bush-McCain-Palin territory. A stat like this is so good because it doesn't leave room for any spin, you know.

Right wingers hit their kids.

Say it again.

Right wingers hit their kids.

Under the guise of child-rearing, of course, but make no mistake, spanking is child abuse, and totally not necessary. As any of you who know me or read my blog know, I am a big advocate for setting appropriate limits on children's behavior. Limits help children feel safe and also helps them work out of the normal levels of primary narcissism from early childhood. But an adult's authority rests solely in the adult's status as... an adult! Children innately, genetically are prone to respect an adult's authority. I've raised three kids and never had to use any kind of physical force to enforce limits. Why would I? I'm an adult. I'm comfortably, and lovingly, in charge. And that's how the kids want it.
"Spanking" - let's call it what it is: physical violence - is what happens when an adult loses control, not what is required when a child is out of control.

Anyway, I thought this was a beauty.

And by the way, speaking of spanking, why do you think so many of the boys on the right are hot for this lady?!

REPUBLICANS MAY LIKE A GOOD SPANKING, BUT IT'S STILL CHILD ABUSE!

THIS IS A REPOST - I thought it worth repeating.

WILL INDIANA STOP SPANKING CHILDREN NOW?

A while ago, I posted a piece called "SPANKING REPUBLICANS," referencing a study that found that Republicans by a much higher percentage than Democrats physically abuse their children (i.e. - hit them, euphemistically called "spanking.")

The big spanking states were: Idaho, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Montana, Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee, and Indiana.

Well, with the election totals in, we have breaking news: all of those child-abusing states voted for John McCain... EXCEPT Indiana! Indiana voted Democratic for the first time since 1964! Wow!

Does this mean that the Hoosier State will change its spanking ways?

I'll keep you posted.

IS THE TRUTH BIASED?!

A new study just released listed the states with the highest rates per capita of cigarette smoking. They are in order: Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Ohio, Missouri, West Virginia, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and Michigan.

Is it biased to point out that these are also the states with the highest rates of teenage pregnancy, illiteracy, spanking of children and a consistent tradition of voting for conservative candidates in presidential elections?

I mean, really?!

FOOT FETISH? SPANKING? THE SHRINKS NOW SAY YOU'RE GOOD TO GO!

This is from a report on Slate.com this morning:

"The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the bible of psychiatry published by the American Psychiatric Association, currently defines "unusual" sexual turn-ons as paraphilias. Paraphilias include everything from foot fetishes, S&M and erotic eating to exhibitionism and pedophilia. These paraphilias are now to be considered harmless unless the person experiencing them feels distressed about their preferences or if their unusual sexual practices are harmful to others."

"Simply put, the latest edition of the manual, DSM V, will say that happy kinksters don’t have a mental disorder. But unhappy kinksters do," wrote Slate's Jillian Keenan.

Well, we're getting there. Here in 5D, the "Pleasure Principle" is in full force. Like the survival instinct, our instinct to follow pleasure is hard-wired into the human organism. Simply stated, the Pleasure Principle comes down to this: if it feels good, it is good, with the one not-so-small caveat - that in order to know what truly feels good, you have to actually be in touch with your body and your feelings which, because of the wounds we all endure in childhood, requires a fair amount of self-work first in order to dismantle the defenses created to survive those early slings and arrows. Once in touch with yourself in that way, you can then live well by following the dictates of your pleasure principle and Full Permission Living.

Here's an excerpt from the Pathwork Guide Lecture entitled, "MOVEMENT, CONSCIOUSNESS, EXPERIENCE: PLEASURE, THE ESSENCE OF LIFE":

"Experience contains the pleasure principle. The possibility for utter bliss is contained in the life force. It is your inborn longing to partake of this experience, which becomes possible when your entire organism is in harmony with reality, when you no longer fight against it because of misunderstandings."

The "in harmony with reality" part is key in this way - to have sadistic or masochistic fantasies, and to consciously and mutually indulge them in sex play, is fun. But to actually be sadistic or masochistic in your intent, and to act out those aspects in your relationship life is not. In his book, "Dark Eros," Thomas Moore, a former monk and Jungian analyst and writer, writes that it is precisely this topic [sadomasochism] that needs to be explored mentally, even spiritually, through fantasy and play, in order to prevent it from erupting into anti-social, or even criminal acts in the flesh.

So, back to your fetishes... the bottom line is this: if your sexual fantasy life, and the concomitant games you play in bed (or in the kitchen or the dungeon), don't stress you out or hurt anyone else, well...

GOOD NEWS FOR OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS: JON VOIGT HATES THEM!!

NEWS ITEM: Actor Jon Voight, who hosted the big GOP fundraising dinner two nights ago, delivered a particularly low-level screed about President Obama, saying he was "embarrassed" by the president and that Obama's leadership would cause the "downfall" of the country. "We are becoming a weak nation," Voigt said, calling Obama a "false prophet" and his administration the "Obama oppression." Republican leaders who spoke afterward praised his comments. "You're great. Come back any time," Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said. Gingrich called Voight's comments a rallying cry until the next elections in 2010.
Well, when a guy like Jon Voigt puts you down, you know you're doing fine. For more on other right wing child-abusers, you can go to my "SPANKING REPUBLICANS" page here.

CONNECTING THE DOTS!

The person upon whose teachings Christianity is supposedly based said things like "love your enemies" and "turn the other cheek" and "let he is who is without sin cast the first stone."

The so-called conservative, right wing fringe in our country, who predominantly tout themselves as "Christian," in fact, heavily support torture, executions, killing animals for sport and beating children as a form of parental discipline.

Hmmm....
