TODAY'S MOST BEAUTIFUL LYRICS!

NO MIRRORS IN MY NANA'S HOUSE
(Lyrics by Ysaye Maria Barnwell (c)1992)

LISTEN TO THE SONG BY SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK HERE!

There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house,
no mirrors in my Nana’s house.
There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house,
no mirrors in my Nana’s house.
And the beauty that I saw in everything
was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun).

I never knew that my skin was too black.
I never knew that my nose was too flat.
I never knew that my clothes didn’t fit.
I never knew there were things that I’d missed,
cause the beauty in everything
was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun);
…was in her eyes.

There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house,
no mirrors in my Nana’s house.
And the beauty that I saw in everything
was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun).

I was intrigued by the cracks in the walls.
I tasted, with joy, the dust that would fall.
The noise in the hallway was music to me.
The trash and the rubbish just cushioned my feet.
And the beauty in everything
was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun).
…was in her eyes.

There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house,
no mirrors in my Nana’s house.
And the beauty that I saw in everything
was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun).

The world outside was a magical place.
I only knew love.
I never knew hate,
and the beauty in everything
was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun).
…was in her eyes.

There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house,
no mirrors in my Nana’s house.
There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house,
no mirrors in my Nana’s house.
And the beauty that I saw in everything
was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun).

This song is special and has deep meaning and all kids as well as adults should konw this song.It goes so deep with me that everytiime I hear it I cried.I discovered this song years ago watching cartoon with my babies and has loved it ever sense. It is so morally correct.Kids need to grow up with the value of this song in there heart.Every parent needs to let their kid listen and focus on its veiw. Its so touching and not only does it teach that beauty is in everything it touches home because I am a blck woman with a flat nose and always had low self esteem because of it.I'm a pretty lady I get that more than enough but I have wondered why wasn't my nose like everybody elses. So this song is great especially for our black kids whose features can be exaggerated as to where they may think they're unattractive as I did coming up.Thanks...
